Facility upgrade at Rocky Valley Dam

FALLS Creek's Rocky Valley Dam is to get a new look boat ramp.

Falls Creek Alpine Resort Management Board has received $116,000 to upgrade the ramp and other existing facilities.

The funding comes as part of the Victorian Government's Better Boating grants program.

Minister for Fishing and Boating, Melissa Horne, said the grant was a example of how Victorians' boating license and recreational vessel registration fees are being re–invested into boating infrastructure and other programs.

Falls Creek Alpine Resort Management chief executive officer Stuart Smythe said he and the board are grateful for the State Government's assistance, with the lake playing host to state and national championships for trout fishing and dragon boat racing.

"With the highest body of water in Australia, activation of the lake for leisure activities has been a key resort initiative to assist with climate change adaptation initiatives and our green season offering," Mr Smyth said.

"In combination with the assistance from Regional Development Victoria, the resort received funding to upgrade the lakeside ANARE shed, creating a year–round destination and which will also function as the trail head for the iconic Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing".

The Rocky Valley Dam area improvements will be complemented by new public amenities, an additional pontoon jetty, new shelters, seating, and parking.
